Thanks for the music, Joe Z

Joe Zawinul passed away this morning at the age of 75. No other details have been released yet.

Terrible news. Though, of course, he outlived most of his peers by a longshot.

First concert I ever saw was Weather Report at the Beacon Theater. I think I was 9. Still remember it like it was yesterday. That band influenced me musically more than I probably even realize.

Indeed a loss to the Jazz world, he was one of a kind. The nice thing is that his influence will continue on for years to come.

I guess it shows that I am aging because I miss musicians like Joe, J.J. Johnson, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, and many others. Although their styles differed greatly I think it would have been truly amazing to see the four I mentioned on stage together jamming.
