Yesterday, the final versions of the Advertisement Unit Standards and Download Measurement Guidelines were published by the Association for Downloadable Media. I was directly involved in the creation and announcement of the former, and am quite pleased by the way these turned out. These were designed very much with an “open arms” approach, and are specifically inclusive (and not exclusive) of everything being done today. Having all these standards in one “go-to” place was the goal, and we achieved that with resounding success. If you haven’t already, go check them out!

Monday night I fly out to San Francisco for some meetings and also to attend ad:tech. This ad:tech is a bit different in that we (the Association for Downloadable Media) are presenting our proposed ad standards as well as guidelines for audience measurement.

And, as it turns out, the former will be introduced by yours truly. I have spent the past few months working with the other members of the Ad Standards Committee crafting these, and it will be my honor and pleasure to introduce them for public comment.

So if you’ll be in town, come on down to ad:tech on Wednesday morning to hear about these two fantastic new developments. If you’re not, they’ll be publicly available for your review after the event. Either way, please take the time to digest what’s been created, and offer any comments you may have. We look forward to hearing what you think.

The fact that the ADM held its first "in person" meetings here was simultaneously no surprise as well as icing on the cake.We at The Mac Observer and iPodObserver have been media sponsors of the Podcast/Portable/New Media show since its inception, and (unofficially) I'm very much looking forward to doing that again.... That means I won't have to spend another gorgeous fall weekend in Ontario, California, and I also think Las Vegas brings many benefits, the biggest of them being that it's easier to get to and also adds the credibility of having this show in a "real" trade show town.Kudos to Tim Bourquin and his entire team for a job well done.

This year’s P(N)ME officially ended today (Sunday, that is) and it was the best one yet. Sure, it didn’t have the “what are we all doing together?” vibe the first show had, nor was it the “what are we going to do together?” vibe that last year’s show had. This year’s show really had a clear direction to it — let’s legitimize this thing and partner up as much as possible to make some money — and for me that was just about perfect. The fact that the ADM held its first “in person” meetings here was simultaneously no surprise as well as icing on the cake.

We at The Mac Observer and iPodObserver have been media sponsors of the Podcast/Portable/New Media show since its inception, and (unofficially) I’m very much looking forward to doing that again. This is a show worth supporting, worth talking about, and worth building.

Next year it’s a month earlier and in Las Vegas. That means I won’t have to spend another gorgeous fall weekend in Ontario, California, and I also think Las Vegas brings many benefits, the biggest of them being that it’s easier to get to and also adds the credibility of having this show in a “real” trade show town.

Kudos to Tim Bourquin and his entire team for a job well done.

Garrick Van Buren had an interesting post yesterday about a sponsorship he remembered from a 17-month-old episode of Evil Genius Chronicles, a podcast that we represent.Though Garrick's words say that podcast advertising doesn't work, his very post proves the opposite.... If it were within the last 6 months, I can bet you he would have remembered that it was iPodJuice who sponsored the show. The best part is because he blogged about it, Dave Slusher (the host) responded, and now the sponsor is getting even more traction from an ad that was written off on *last* year's taxes.

Garrick Van Buren had an interesting post yesterday about a sponsorship he remembered from a 17-month-old episode of Evil Genius Chronicles, a podcast that we represent.

Though Garrick’s words say that podcast advertising doesn’t work, his very post proves the opposite. After all, how many other mediums can claim an 18-month retention on *anything*? Sure, Garrick forgot the name of the sponsor, but he remembered what they did and what show he heard it on. After nearly 18 months, that’s HUGE, if you ask me. If it were within the last 6 months, I can bet you he would have remembered that it was iPodJuice who sponsored the show.

The best part is because he blogged about it, Dave Slusher (the host) responded, and now the sponsor is getting even more traction from an ad that was written off on *last* year’s taxes.

In this case, the only potential mistake was that iPodJuice stopped sponsoring the show. For every Garrick Van Buren that *nearly* remembered everything and blogged to get the rest, there are likely 100 other listeners who moved on to something else. If iPodJuice were a regular sponsor here, I bet their bottom line would show it.
